A Touch of French

In an age when newer, bigger, shinier, and disposable became the buzz words of style, we rebelled. We kept a touch of French without even knowing it.

We enjoy tea and croissants with friends, even if the china cup and dessert plates don't match. We treasure the cupboard with chippy paint wonder in whose kitchen it stood before it became ours. Our collection of antique rose painting grace our mantle, the sizes and colors are not perfectly matched but each is a quality painting. The silver trophy cup whose engraved name we don't recognize is the perfect vase for fresh flowers, ever present in our homes. Slipcovered sofas beg us to sit for a while, to relax, to enjoy a moment of life.

The French decorating style embraces history. Decorating in not an act; it is way of life. Collections of tiny bits and pieces found at flea markets are proudly displayed. Leather books are stacked next to ancient religious figures on hand painted tables. Rugs under our feet are threadbare, worn by the footsteps of many, and still worthy to be used for many more years. A large chandelier, dripping with antique crystals hangs above a warm wooden table, the crystals caching the sunlight and sending it to every corner.

Truly the French style becomes a search through flea markets as well as the top notch antique stores, The rule of French is easy; if you love it, it will work. All the colors blend. Pinks greens, and aquas are gorgeous on white. Yellows, turquoise, and reds pop on black. All can be used in the same floor, blending the rooms seamlessly as you wonder about , you eyes landing on each treasure.

Fabrics play a big role in French decoration. Toile pillows, velvet curtains, knitted throws, brocade upholstered chairs dripping with passementerie, and needlepoint footstools all work well in the sitting. French linens piled on the with a bed in all shades of white, ivory, and flax, feel softer with each washing. The damask tablecloths on the dining table have been passed from generation to generation, kept pristine first by a French laundress and now by our own loving hands, saving it for the next generation.

Living with a touch of French is as easy as displaying our family's history or the history of some unknown family. A style that welcomes us home. A respite from a hectic world.

When I think of the comforts of home, I think of old worn sweaters, soft and faded with time. Sitting by the fire, wrapped in a beautifully pieced quilt that my mother made so many years ago. On the sofa beside me, the colors of the quilt I’m stitching, bright in comparison. A pot of tea, steeping in a favorite tea pot, sitting on a table nearby.

Throughout my home there are many framed photographs on the wall, and placed casually among my belongings. Many of family and friends that are a part of my present, others of family no longer with us, but never forgotten.

In my home, I’m surrounded by glimpses of my past as I sip my tea from the antique cup and saucer that once belonged to my grandmother. The fragrance of the potpourri simmering on the stove, reminiscent of holiday get-togethers, and mingling with memories of my mother’s kitchen during the holidays. The lit candles, with their rich and spicy fragrance, cast soft shadows around the room, lighting up corners with memories of familiar voices and laughter.

The comforts of home reach out from the past and wind their way into those of the present. They are our own distinct style, with a touch of nostalgia mixed in. A place we create for ourselves that is warm and inviting and will one day become a comforting memory for our loved ones.

Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year. I’m just getting settled back into my regular routine and enjoying some of the nesting that naturally comes with the season.

A long hot bath at the end of a cool autumn day is just the stress reliever I seem to enjoy the most. The desire to rush and get every minute out of each and every day, has passed with the summer season. The bath becomes my sanctuary, and scents of honeysuckle and rose surround me, soothing away the stress of a busy day.

The shelves in my bath are lined with scented candles and delightful bath gels and oils. Vintage glass bottles that once held perfume and special oils, now display a single rose. A glass tray, once boasting the most magnificent hand-painted roses, now holds beautiful, decorative soaps. Lace trimmed towels, drape casually over the vanity stool, and add just the touch of luxury I now have the time to enjoy.

My bedroom undergoes some seasonal changes as well. The light and airy lace sheers, are now replaced with heavier silks and brocade panels. Some etched with the finest roses, providing beauty and warmth as well as my own escape from the outdoors.

Eiderdown comforters and antique quilts are freshened up and stacked at the foot of the bed. Beautiful hand-stitched pillows, now out storage, and covering every sitting surface. My Vintage hankie collection, framed above my bed, a reminder of the gentle women from my past.

No matter how busy you find yourself, adding a few special touches to your bedroom and bath will make you feel like you’ve escaped from the everyday worries, even for just a few moments. Surrounding yourself with some of your favorite treasures and scents, will create a sanctuary of your very own.

Do you remember the simple delights of childhood? How a cupcake could make you giggle and as far as you were concerned, polkadots belonged on everything. As I made the passage from child to adult, I found that some of the same things that gave me delight as a child, still brought a smile to my face. The little girl in me, always looking for an opportunity to relive the happiness of childhood. Then having daughters, the perfect excuse.

Cupcakes remind me of those happy times – and because cupcake bakeries are popping up all over, it’s given us glorious permission to partake in this delightful pastime! After-all, who doesn’t love a cupcake? The once simple confection, now piled high with frostings and toppings, indulging the child in all of us.

It’s the simple things like cupcakes and whimsical dots that bring us so much pleasure. So why not add a little whimsy to our lives? Because of this fun, new focus on whimsy, we’ve seen cupcakes and polkadots finding their way into even the most conventional lifestyles! Cupcake pillows and purses, fabrics sprinkled with delightful little cakes and colorful dots, framed prints of the grandest of cupcakes, piled high with whipped frosting and topped with a cherry, earrings dangling with the smallest of tasty confections. All a scrumptious reminder of the delight we feel when we take time to enjoy the simple things in life. The delight we feel when we let our inner child out to play, even if only for a moment.

My New Signs

I know this does not seem too exciting to everyone, but to me getting my new signs at the new boutique was a good day. We have been open six weeks at the new location and I have been waiting patiently for my signs to be done and installed. So yesterday when Ryan from Haze Graphics showed up with my signs in hand it made my day. Trying to get the signs hung was a little tricky on a busy Holiday weekend, but don't they look nice?

Open At Last!

It feels like forever and my old bones are aching, but we are finally open at our new location in downtown Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. First and foremost, I would like to thank all my great friends and family for all the help in getting my new boutique ready to open. I could never have done it without all of you (yes David the lasagna is coming). I especially want to thank my husband, Tony. Without his support and all his work, I would never have been able to accomplish this start to the next chapter in my life. Tony, I want you to know how much it means to me when you make my dreams come true. I love you! So if you are in the area, stop in, visit, shop, and enjoy all beautiful Lake Geneva has to offer.

Finally Moved and Ready to Unpack

We are finally all moved out of our old location and into the new store in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It was very sad to leave the place where my boutique made it's home for the last four years. As the day progressed my sadness gave way to excitement about starting a new chapter of my life. I always believe that when God closes a window for a reason, he always opens a door. Where Would I be Without a Little Help From My Friends and Family

Getting the store ready to paint was no easy task. We first had to take off all the slat walls the previous tenants had left up. Thank goodness my niece Hannah showed up to help us. We managed to get them all down, but there were zillions, yes zillions of holes in the walls that needed to be patched and sanded before the painters could paint. My friend Natalie was there to lend a hand to help sand the walls. Now the painters. my friends Trisha, Debbie, and my daughter Brittany were able to get rolling. Tyler my future son in law was getting the trim painted so once the walls are done he is laying the wood floor. Stay tuned for more updates!

We Got The Keys!!

Wow! How exciting we got the keys to the new store today. Took my Mom, my daughter Ashley, Trisha our friend, Tony and I and headed up to Lake Geneva to celebrate our new venture. So we popped a bottle of champagne to kick off the celebration before all the work begins.

Once we put the temporary sign in the window it seemed to finally make it real. Off to dinner to celebrate. I think my daughter Ashley was ready to go!

After four years in our present location in McHenry, Illinois we have decided to move Tres Belle Boutique to the beautiful downtown district of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Follow along with us as we turn our new store into a tres belle (very beautiful in french) boutique. Here we are the first time we saw the space for rent. I wasn't to happy at first as I was coming from a beautiful old home to a store front in need of a lot of work. Never fear as I have some very creative people that I am very close to and I am very excited to begin my journey into the next chapter of my life. Painting, cleaning, and designing have already started, so make sure to check back for day two coming soon!

I wanted to share how beautiful sprintime is in my yard. I can not believe how lush and full the forsythia bushes are this spring in our area. This weekend I came across a big bag of yarn that I had packed away. I like to knit now and then and had quite a stash. I am by no means a pro when it comes to knitting, but I got to thinking what could I make with all this yarn. First thing that popped into my head was The Pink Slipper Project. We wanted to help bring awareness to women's heart disease while raising money to donate to Centegra's Cardiac Care Fund. I just wanted to thank everyone that participated in our Red Raffle. United States National Snow Sculpting Competition

Today we took a ride to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin so we could check out all the cute shops in the downtown. We didn't realize that this was the weekend for the National Snow Sculpting Competition. We took some time to stroll down to the water and see all the entries.

Since 1996, the nation's top snow sculptors head to southeastern Wisconsin to compete in the competition. Each team of three spends three days and nights carving their art out of a 6'x6'x10' block of snow. The competition offers no cash prize just bragging rights of being proclaimed the best. The event draws over 30,000 people to the Lake Geneva Area.

The first week of January greets me with mixed feelings. I enjoyed the time spent with family and friends, yet missed Make Mine Pink and all the hustle and bustle of activity.
I was happy to get the Christmas trimmings stored away, making room to proudly display the gifts so thoughtfully chosen for me, but with the new year, comes time to clean house externally as well as internally. With the new year, we make resolutions, determined for a fresh new start. We clear out the old plans and start working on new...making way for all of the wonder a new year can bring.

The Boutiques at Make Mine Pink are experiencing the same thing. We love our planned events, and our merchandise is gorgeous - but it is time for us to straighten up the shelves a bit, look at everything with new eyes, and a fresh outlook. Christmas is all about family, friends, church and community. Seeing loved ones who live far away and reconnecting with those who are nearby, but we don't see as often as we wish we could. Working with our communities to bring Christmas cheer to those in need, is such a special part of our Christmas tradition.

Christmas is about time spent sitting around the fire, enjoying the warmth of the season. It is hot cocoa or our favorite tea, sipped from our favorite vintage holiday cups. Working on new stitching projects for someone we love, while telling stories from the past year and our hopes for the year to come. We're thankful for those we will share it with.

It's about planning cookie swaps and holiday menus. Yankee swaps and prizes that bring a little extra element of excitement to young and old alike. We started getting the boutique all decorated for the Holiday season this past week in preparation for our annual Downtown Christmas Walk this Sunday, November 22nd. The Christmas walk has been a holiday tradition in McHenry for the last 22 years. Families come from all around to see the toy's for tots parade, pony rides, wagon rides, shopping the specialties stores, and ending the day with the lighting of all the trees in Veterans Park. It's a wonderful day for us at the boutique, as it kicks off the Holiday shopping season.

When I think of the comforts of home, I picture a favorite sweater, soft and worn with time. Sitting by the fire, wrapped in a quilt that my mother made so many years ago bring back so many memories of home. Looking around, there are framed photographs on the wall, some of people I see every day, and others of friends of loved ones that once touched my life , yet are no longer with us. The memories woven, remain alive and an important part of our lives. The antique clock that my great-grandmother cherished, chimes the hour in the next room, and the crackling of the fire seems in tune, counting the minutes.

As I sip my tea from a special antique cup and saucer that was once a part of my grandmother's treasured collections, I can't help but remember and smile. No one made a tea party more special than she did. At the end, we'd read our tea leaves as if we could tell the future. Mine was always filled with wonderful things that were sure to come true.

The fragrance of potpourri simmering on the stove, reminiscent of holiday get-togethers, gingerbread and pumpkin pie, and mingling with memories of my mother's kitchen on any Sunday or holiday, fills my senses. The lit candles, with rich and spicy scents, cast soft shadows around the room, lighting up corners with thoughts of familiar voices and laughter.

The comforts of home reach out from the past and wind their way into those of the present. Our homes, stamped with our own distinct style, with just a touch of nostalgia mixed in. Grandmother's teacup, the glaze finely crazed with age, sitting on the shelf alongside a favorite new set of coffee mugs. A vintage lamp standing tall, surrounded by candlelight. Among the faded family photographs hangs a framed print that makes you smile just because. A treasured worn sweater lies in a dresser drawer beside a brand new knit cardigan. On the sofa beside me, the colors of a new quilting project are bright compared to the quilt my mother made.

It's the little touches from generations past that help to make our house a home. Each item is so different from the others, yet nothing feels out of place. It just feels like home.

Autumn bursts into a seasonal symphony of color. With swirling leaves of crimson, amber, and gold against a background of crisp blue sky, it excites our senses and invites us to grab hold… before it slips away.

This is a season of celebration, meant to be shared with family and good friends. There are family dinners at tables covered with vintage cloths embroidered with the colors of fall. Time spent together carving pumpkins and decorating with colorful gourds. Weekend afternoons are spent winding through corn mazes, and trips to the apple orchard. Cool crisp evenings and long walks, enjoying all that the season offers before moves into winter.

Nature’s display mingles with the scent of fall. Pies made with fresh apples baking in the oven, cinnamon and spiced tea steeping in a vintage teapot on the counter and marshmallows toasting over a crackling fire. The crisp cool air that rushes in when you open the front door refreshes and excites the senses.

The changing fall foliage provides inspiration for our indoor and outdoor decorating. We add accents from an autumn palette of copper, rust, green, gold and pink to highlight forgotten nooks and crannies. We warm up your our homes with the colors of falling leaves… orange, brown and yellow. Maybe a fall wreath hanging in the entranceway, a needlepoint cushion stitched with rustic fall colors, a pumpkin spiced candle, or a pretty fall bouquet displayed on a side table.
The colors of autumn pervade our quiet alone times too. We start knitting projects with yarn of warm russets and reds, crimson and gold. We stitch quilts with beautiful fabrics that remind us of swirling leaves and autumn’s irresistible allure. Perhaps an attempt at keeping the autumn colors just a little longer.

Save The Ta Ta's Spa and Shop Posi+ivi+y Night

On Friday, October 16th Tres Belle Boutique hosted a Posi+ivi+y Fund Raising spa and shop night to raise money to be donated to McHenry Centegra Breast Health Navigator. I invited several local businesses to join me and provide the spa services. Brittany from Hair For You was on hand for pink hair extensions, Natalie the owner of The Nail Lounge for pink mini mani's, and Amber from Chapel Hill Bodyworks for chair massages. Raffle donations were also generously donated by Bella Medica and Destination Fitness. All guests received a pink posi+ivi+y bracelet to help them remember to keep positive about their lives. We all know with a positive attitude we can accomplish great things. Guests also received boutique discounts, pink drinks and treats, and lots of fun. If you take a close look at my pictures you can see I changed all my chandelier bulbs and lights around my windows and used hand dipped bulbs from Candylights. Thanks Roxie your lights added the perfect touch to my event!

With crackling leaves under foot, the sights and smells mingle and wrap you in memory like a warm blanket on a chilly evening. The smell of a fire burning in a neighbor's fireplace as you take your evening stroll, reminiscent of outdoor bonfires and marshmallow roasts, or a cool night warming by the fire with someone you love. Vibrant carved pumpkins or hand crafted velvet pumpkins, both have their place. Some gracing the front steps, others atop a dining room table or sideboard. Reminders of nights spent trick-or-treating, carving friendly pumpkin faces and toasting pumpkin seeds. All reminiscent of autumns gone by.

Cinnamon and clove potpourri simmering on the stove top or in a kettle on the wood burning stove fill your home with the delicious scent of fall. Friends stop by for spiced cider and fresh pumpkin bread - right out of the oven. Paint Our Downtown Pink

Lots of fund raising is happening in downtown McHenry. A few of us got together and made 400 pink ribbon bows and hung them all over the downtown. Several businesses have gone the extra mile and decorated their businesses to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.

Tres Belle Boutique will be donating 5% of our October sales to Centegra Breast Health Navigator in McHenry. On Friday, October 16th we will be hosting a "Save The Ta Ta's" Spa and Shop Posi+ivi+y Night. We have a fun night planned with pink mini mani's, pink hair extentions, chair massages, and raffles to help raise money to be donated in memory of my sister Diane. Shoppers will also receive discounts and plenty of pink refreshments will be on hand.

Shades of pink are popping up everywhere. Pink, once reserved for women's boudoirs and little girl's dresses is now being incorporated into the décor of homes everywhere. Sometimes in hues of summer sunsets, and sometimes bold and bright, pink makes a statement that is impossible to ignore.

Many decorators are "all things pink" fans and put pink in every corner and space - pink furniture, pink curtains, pink accessories. Others' craving for pink is satisfied with just a bit of a favorite shade here and there. You may find a pink pale mirror hanging in the cream colored powder room, an antique pink teapot for tea parties with the girls, or an accent wall painted in a vibrant pink.

Mixing shades of pink makes a room feminine, but the single pink accent in a black and white room can command just as much attention. Downtown Wine Festival

Yesterday was our 3rd Annual Wine Festival and Business Showcase held in Veteran's Park in McHenry, Illinois. What a beautiful day it was for all who attended. The Riverside Area Business Association brought six wineries from all over Illinois. Some local restaurants served up some delicious food and area business set up booths to show off their wares.

I wanted to share my booth with you which I set up with Trisha, my friend and owner of "Little Bit of This That and The Other". I love when we bring festivities to the Downtown. It gives us all a chance to have some fun, visit with friends, make a few new friends, all while we market our businesses.

I love to share new products when they arrive at the Boutique. The new line from Tokyo Milk is everything I hoped it would be. The perfumed soaps are wrapped in beautiful papers with glitter accents. From Marie Antoinette type ladies, the Eiffel Tower, to a Paris ballroom. Did I mention how wonderful they smell. What a great gift idea for the upcoming Holidays.

The new Bon Bon lip balms come boxed in a adorable box. Made of shea butter, aloe, and vitamin E. Each box includes kissing tips and trivia. The lip balms come in several flavors. Rosewater, Candied Violettes, Let Them Eat Cake, Opera Mint, Honey Blossom, Cherry Bomb, and Sweet Cream. How fun!

The Pink Slipper Project

"The Pink Slipper Project" what a wonderful cause I find myself sewing for today. Warming the hearts and toes of those that will spend this winter living in women's and children's shelters. I became involved in this project through my connections as a member of Make Mine Pink. There is nothing more comforting then a pair of slippers on a cold winters night. So what a great project to bring just a little comfort to someone less fortunate then me. It breaks my heart to think of having to take my children to a shelter and makes me realize just how fortunate my own family life has been. Here is a sneek peek of my first two pairs.

The Pink Slipper Project

Each year, hundreds of thousands of women and children are forced to leave their homes and seek safety and healing in shelters across the country. This year, you can make a difference in the lives of a few of those women and children and remind them that their sisters are thinking of them. They are not alone.Make Mine Pink and Quilt 'n' Stitch Marketplace are joining together to launch our much-anticipated Pink Slipper Project, and we hope you will join us.

The Pink Slipper Project is a project started by Joyce Lucas of Make Mine Pink. She was inspired by Terry Grahl of Enchanted Makeovers and all of the wonderful work she does to make the lives of Women and Children a little better living in shelters. We are going to provide hand crafted slippers to as many Women and Children as we can this winter. There are so many ways to help with this project. You can make slippers, donate materials and supplies or even money to cover shipping. Everyones contribution is important. Working together we can make a difference. Our first group of slippers will be going October 1st and we will be donating 80 pairs for women and 40 for children.

What did Mother dream about after she tucked her little ones into bed at night? What did she secretly yearn for while listening to the secrets of her heart? If there was a way to find clues to the mystery of our mothers, it could be tucked inside the treasure chest called her jewelry box.

Amongst the treasures, barely concealed amidst a sea of costume jewelry, lies a small rusted key. You can’t help but wonder if it’s a diary key that can be used to unlock mother’s most secret dreams, or a key to another box where even more secrets and mysteries lie? Our imaginations run away with us. When no one's looking, almost as if a child again, you try the key in the lock of her jewelry box. The drawer unlocks and it’s disappointing for a moment, that the mystery is so easily solved. But then you slide the drawer open and new mysteries and the memories of her fill the room.

Vintage rhinestone pins, clouded with age but ready to be shined and repurposed. Pearls yellowed over the years. We're unable to resist gently nibbling them to see if they're real. Mother's favorite lace gloves she wore to church each Sunday or to occasional weddings, rest under the tray, as if awaiting another special occasion to bring them out. A vintage silver bracelet, the one she let you try on when you were a little girt but was much too large for your childish wrist. Mixed amongst the treasures, you might find a few mother of pearl buttons, saved in hopes of finding a special use, or a few stray cuff links of Dad's. Mother was always sure there would be a use for that one cuff link. A tarnished locket with his faded photograph brings back a flood of memories. Vintage buttons are scattered throughout, each one reminding you of a dress Mother wore.

Mother's jewelry box is a treasure trove for little girls and grownup daughters. No matter our age, our imaginations become colorful and childlike when we open her box of secrets.. As a child, we’re convinced that somewhere in the magnificent box lives a fairy who can tell all the secrets that lie amongst these treasures, and if we listen hard enough, we’ll hear the stories it can tell.

Rock "N" Roll Chicago 1/2 Marathon

Today my daughter Brittany and her best friend Justine ran in the Chicago 1/2 Marathon. The race started at 6:40 am this morning. It was a early morning for all of us but, boy was it worth it. She was so nervous as this was her first time running more that a 5K. But with her friend Justine by her side who by the way is a seasoned runner since Junior High School, off they went. Justine stayed with her the whole time even knowing she could of ran the race at a faster pace. Now that's true friendship. I was so proud of both of them. It was so emotional seeing her cross the finish line just knowing she was okay and that she did it. Over $3 Million dollars was also raised for different charities in one morning. How cool is that! I would like to share a few photos of the day with you. I am so proud of you Brittany. Way to go Girls!!

chateau de chenonceau~The Engagement

This chateau was my favorite. My daughter Brittany getting engaged in Diane de Poitiers garden made it a memory I will always cherish. The chateau de chenonceau was built in 1513. Chenonceau owes a large part of its charm to women. Diane de Poitier was the favourite lady to King Henri II to whom he donated Chenonceau. On his death the chateau was given back to the queen by Diane in exchange for Chaumont-sur-Loire. Known as the ladies chateau you can see elegant touches that grace this manor. It was so quiet and beautiful with a light rain falling on the day we visted. You just stand in each of the rooms and just think back to who stood in the same place as I was standing so many long years ago. You can just feel how it must have felt to attend a ball as you pass through the ballroom. Flowers adorned every room. The arrangements were absolutely amazing. Tyler took my daughter for a walk in the gardens. He had been carrying the ring around with him since we left looking for just the right moment to pop the question. As they made their way around the beautiful gardens he grabbed her hand and told her he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Loire Valley~Paris Trip Day #4

We were up and out early today. The tour guide picked us up at our hotel at 8 am. We headed to the Loire Valley with our first stop at Amboise. Amboise is a medieval fortress for royals during the reigns of King Charles VIII and Francois I (late 15th~early 16th century). Leonardo da Vinci visited here often and his tomb is placed in the chateau's chapel

Our next stop was Chateau du close luce built in 1471. The chateau de clos luce was located 400 meters from the Royal Chateau d'Amboise. Le Clos Luce was bought by Charles VIII in 1490 and was a royal and summer residence for two hundred years of the Kings of France. Of all those who entered the gates of Le Clos Luce, the greatest genius who was invited by King of France was Leonardo da Vinci. He moved into the chateau in 1516.

Just wanted to share some pictures of my Tea Party that I held at Tres Belle Boutique yesterday. This was my first time holding this event. For the most part it went pretty good. Would have liked to see more of a turn out, but had lots of fun with everyone who attended. Not everyone wore a hat. We had a little fun with some of the hats though. My friend Celeste brought her Sheboygan brat hat for a little fun. My air conditioner decided to act up so my friend Dave decided to get in on the fun with his hat entry while he was there making repairs. At days end we had alot of fun and spent some great time with some of my best customers.

Paris Trip Day #3

Today we are headed to the Paris Flea Markets in the morning and then Versailles in the afternoon. I was very disappointed that I didn't get much time to browse around the flea market longer. We needed to meet everyone back by a certain time so we would have time for Versailles.

Versailles was beautiful but very expense to see everything that was there. The Palace of Versailles was the official residence of the Kings of France from 1682 until 1790. It was originally a hunting lodge, built in 1624, by Louis XIII. It was expanded by Louis XIV beginning in 1669. He used it as a little lodge as a secret refuge for his amorous trysts with the lovely Louise de la Valliere and built a fairy tale park around it.

We ended our day at a mexican restaurant(yes mexican in France). Food was okay I like ours better, but they had ice in our drinks. I missed ice so much while we were in Paris. Such a little thing we take for granted. Off to bed early for us tonight. We are headed to the Loire Valley in the morning.

Paris Trip Day #2

This day was one of my favorite days of the trip. We got up early and headed to the Metro enroute to the Opera House. We took the guided tour and I am so glad we did. It was amazing to learn all the history in the building of the Opera House. The pictures can't even touch how beautiful it was in person.

Once we were done at the Opera House we headed back to the Metro and headed to Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. Montmartre is an adorable town high on a hill overlooking the city and on the top of the hill is Sacre Coeur. Walked up lots and lots of stairs. Thought I was going to have a heart attack. In Montmarte there are all sorts of street performers and mimes. Once you make your way into the little town there are lots of street artists, bistro's, and adorable shops.

We ended the day with a trip to the Eiffel Tower to see it all lite up at night. Amazing! Everyone is out and about everywhere. Laying on the lawn near the fountains, walking, or sitting down by the river. The Eiffel Tower twinkles every hour and everyone cheers and yells. We decided to walk back to our hotel. They said it was only about a 20 minute walk. Well, 45 minutes later we finally arrived back. My back and feet were killing me, but it was sooooo worth it. What a wonderful day we had.

Paris Day #1

Bonjour,

We arrived in Paris at around 8:00 am Paris time after a eight hour plane ride. The plane ride went pretty good considering it was my first in 28 years. Our feet hit the ground running once we got there. First check into our hotel and drop off luggage. Once that was out of the way we headed to get on a tour bus to check out the city. I saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time on the bus. It just takes your breath away it's so surreal. Once we got off the tour bus, we headed to the metro which is the subway under Paris and headed to the Catacombs. The Catacombs were created at the end of the 18th century. It's actually a large underground tomb where cemeteries were relocated to due to overcrowding due to disease. It definitely was not for the sqweemish. We ended our first day with a wonderful dinner at a outside cafe. By this time we had been up for over 24 hours and I was fading fast. I think I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow. Tomorrow will be an even busier day.

When I was in Paris and London this past week I took some pictures that I thought you might enjoy. You never know just where PINK will show up. The roses are from Leonardo Da Vinci's garden, the scooter and pink limo are from the streets of Paris, the pink bunnies are from the window display at Gallerie Lafayette, street light flower baskets on the streets of London, and last but not least me walking up the steps to Chateau d'Amboise.

Bonjour Mes Amies!

My family and I left yesterday for Paris! I am going to try and blog my many adventures as we move from day to day. There are eleven of us in our little group. I survived the eight hour plane ride. I have not been on a plane for about 28 years. The plane ride actually went very well. Still not my favorite thing to do, but I wanted to go to Paris.

We hit the streets of Paris right after we landed.I could not sleep on the plane so it made for a very long day. Rode in the open air double decker bus and learned alot about the city of Paris. Toured the catacombs. Very interesting. We all went for dinner at a sidewalk cafe and had a delicious dinner.

I didn't get many pictures today so I will just post a few. I have to go to bed. So until tomorrow .

Take Time to Smell the Flowers

We all lead such busy lives, but sometime we just need to stop for a second and smell the roses. We get so caught up that we tend to miss the beautiful things going on right in front of us. So slow down just a bit and take some time. You deserve it.
It was so beautiful out on Sunday so I took these pictures of my two new rose bushes. The iris plant my mother gave me years ago when she split her irises growing in her back yard from when I was a little girl. So beautiful!

Chamber of Commerce Wings Luncheon

Every other month I get the chance to sponsor a table at a women's luncheon held through my Chamber of Commerce. I try to make my table reflextive of my Boutique. This month we went with the gardening theme. Notice the little chairs. These are replicas of the ones I have in the front yard of Tres Belle Boutique. Everyone LOVES these chairs. All the ladies at my table this month received a potted pink impatient flower in a black and pink polka dot pot. These luncheons are a wonderful opportunity to network and share ideas with women in business. I'd like to share a few pictures with you of my table.

"Cherished Memories" We all have them and no one can take them away from you. Whether it's a old photograph, a family heirloom, or just a passing thought of a special moment in time. Some of my most cherished memories are of the times I spent with my sister Diane. There wasn't much we didn't share and not a day went by that we did not see or speak to each other. How I miss her. What a busy month May is. I hope all the prom goers had a safe and fun time at their proms. I am sure you all looked beautiful. I did get a sneak peek at some of you from pictures my daughter had taken from West Campus promenade. You all looked amazing! How I miss those days. Shopping with my girls for the perfect dress and hoping no one else wore it. Add the jewelry, purse, shoes, hair, nails, makeup..... Wait! Maybe I don't miss it that much :) I hope all you ladies had a wonderful Mother's Day and let your family pamper you. You deserved it. My girls took me to the races at Arlington Park. What a blast! I haven't done that in years. I was getting pretty good at picking the winners. To bad I'm to chicken to bet more than $2.00. As the month of May moves along, we will see many of our friends and relatives graduate from high school or college. I would like to take this time to wish all the graduates the best of luck and congratulations to the Class of 2009!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Thank goodness January is over. I don't know about all of you but I am
soooooo ready for Spring. I tried to get away from the cold for a bit
on our recent trip to Florida, but I didn't even get to put my flip
flops on as the weather once we got there was 60's during the day and
30's at night. The only consolation was that it was 20 below back here
at home. The Atlanta Gift Show was so much fun. A bit overwhelming at
times due to the size of the show but, we saw alot of great ideas for
new merchandise for the Boutique and placed some orders which have
already started to arrive. Iv'e included some of them here but always check my

BONJOUR!

Welcome to Tres Belle Boutique's first blog. I thought this would be a good way to keep in touch with all of you and to let you know what is happening in the Boutique and around the Downtown. For all of you who do not know me personally, my name is Lynn Diedrich and I am the owner of Tres Belle Boutique. I have lived in McHenry my whole life, yes all fifty three years. Three years ago, shortly after my 50th birthday (ouch), I decided to go ahead with an idea of opening a business my sister Diane and I had talked about doing many times, but we always put off. Never push your dreams totally aside for to long because in 2003, my sister passed away at the age of thirty seven. Two years later, I like to think she had something to do with my decision to take a chance and go for it. My daughter named the store, I stocked it, and here we are two and half years later.
